Richmond Highland Games 2023 Piping & Drumming Competitions

Piping and Drumming Competition will be held Saturday, 4 November, beginning at 9:00am.  Competition schedule will be emailed prior to the event.  Parking will be free for bands and competitors.  Last day to register is Saturday, 21 October.

PIPE BANDS:  Send rosters of participating band members to Cooper Wamsley, ([email protected]), Assistant Director, no later than Saturday, 28 October.  Tickets will be issued to participating members only.  Bands must participate in the opening ceremony massed bands.  Bands that register by the deadline and participate in band competition will be eligible for travel cost assistance based on one-way mileage to the competition field.  Travel reimbursement is as follows:

  • 25 to 75 miles:  $100
  • 76 to 150 miles:  $150
  • 151 to 300 miles:  $250
  • 301+ miles:  $300

Pipe bands wishing to bring tents must coordinate this with the Games Committee, not the competition organizers, at least one month in advance.

Restrictions

RULES AND REGULATIONS:

  1. Competition is sanctioned by the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association (EUSPBA) and will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations thereof.

  2. All competitors must be current members in good-standing of the EUSPBA.

  3. All competitors must wear appropriate Highland attire.

  4. Competition organizers reserve the right to refuse any entry.

  5. Judges are ineligible to compete.

  6. Band draw for order of play will be conducted and announced at least three days in advance, and band representatives will be invited to attend.

  7. All events must have at least two competitors or they will be canceled; however, the sole competitors will be allowed to perform for judge comments if desired.

  8. The schedule for events will be published at least three days in advance.  Event schedule will be based on what competition organizers deem best for the overall day of competition, not on grade level.  Order of play within each solo event will be randomized.

  9. Medals will be awarded for each solo piping and drumming event.

  10. Decisions by judges and competition organizers are final.
